Design Thoughts: I looked on freepik.com for inspiration for this assignment. I wanted to show a motivational message laid over a background image of the world to illustrate that students have a world of possibilities past their perceived limitations.
How I created this image: I downloaded a free photo of scissors cutting paper from freepik.com and used Camera Raw to adjust the original colors from red to a neutral gray. I also adjusted the shadows and highlights of the paper in Camera Raw. I rotated and positioned the image in my new Photoshop document, following the rule of thirds. I created a mask to remove the blank white portion beneath and between the scissors so I could put a layer underneath that would show through when the scissors cut the paper. The colors are intended to align with USU’s colors. I added the text “I can’t” (scissors cutting it to say “I can”), which is a motivational idea that I saw on another freepik.com photo. I aligned the text to run parallel to the fold of the paper. The font used is Eras Bold ITC, in Photoshop. I created what could be a simple logo of the program by placing the words in the name in close proximity and setting it to the corner to try and brand the display image.
